Dr. Isabelle Bauer, C. Psych.
Welcome to West Toronto CBT! I am a registered clinical psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. I have been in practice for over 15 years and I received my Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Concordia University. I completed my clinical internship and worked as a clinical psychologist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in the Mood and Anxiety Program. I subsequently worked at the University of Toronto counselling centre, providing CBT to students dealing with a variety of mental health difficulties. During that time, I also participated in the training of other mental health professionals in the delivery of CBT and provided clinical supervision to psychology practicum students and pre-doctoral internship residents.
I have been offering assessments and evidence-based treatments for older adolescents and adults across the range of mood and anxiety disorders. I received training and gained experience in evidenced-based treatments, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
I take a non-pathologizing approach to mental health, guided by the belief that mental health challenges are a part of the human experience and that to live a full and rich life is to experience the full range of emotions, including pain and suffering. My approach emphasizes understanding individuals’ beliefs & behaviors in the context of their lived experience, evaluating whether these beliefs & behaviors serve them or constrain them in the pursuit of a happy & meaningful life, & developing skills to challenge unhelpful thinking patterns & change behaviors in a way that brings them closer to living a life aligned with their goals & values.
My goal is to create a safe and non-judgmental space in which I can join with clients on the path towards greater awareness, understanding, and change. I strive to tune into individuals’ reality and to lead them into and through difficult emotions and experiences, while equipping them with skills to effect positive change out in the world. I aim to meet individuals where they are at and to gently move them towards change, messy as it may be, with curiosity, kindness, compassion, and collaboration. Ultimately, I help people to make their world bigger and their life fuller, and to show up for it and move through it with courage and authenticity.
If this resonates with you, I welcome the opportunity to connect to explore the possibility of working together. I am currently accepting clients and have availability during the daytime, from Monday to Friday. I also offer convenient virtual appointments.
